How PSLE scoring works

Each of the four subjects — English, Maths, Science and Mother Tongue — gets an Achievement Level (AL) from 1 to 8, where AL1 is the best (90 marks and above). The four ALs are added up to give the PSLE Score, from 4 to 32. A lower score is better.

  • AL1 is 90 marks and above; AL8 is below 20 marks.
  • Foundation subjects are graded AL A, B or C, which count as AL 6, 7 and 8 in the PSLE Score.
  • Higher Mother Tongue doesn't change the PSLE Score, but can help in a tie for some secondary schools.

After the papers

Results come out in late November. Parents then choose secondary schools, and Secondary 1 posting results follow in December. Under Full Subject-Based Banding, the PSLE Score decides which Posting Group a child starts in — but subjects can be taken at a more demanding level from Secondary 1.

Teaching PSLE students? Plan your lessons around these dates

  • Orals (12–13 Aug) and listening (15 Sep) come first. Many tutors switch to oral practice in July — picture discussion and stimulus-based conversation.
  • The written papers fit into one week. Lighten or pause lessons that week; a short session the day before English or Maths is often all a P6 child needs.
  • Plan the gap after PSLE. October to December is when many P6 students stop — or switch to a Sec 1 head start. Ask parents early which they want.

Common questions

When is PSLE 2026?

The PSLE 2026 written papers are from Thursday 24 September to Wednesday 30 September 2026. English and Mother Tongue orals are on 12–13 August and listening comprehension is on 15 September.

When are PSLE 2026 results released?

PSLE 2026 results are expected around 24–25 November 2026 (tentative). Pupils collect them from their primary school. MOE confirms the exact date closer to the time.

What is a good PSLE Score?

The PSLE Score ranges from 4 (best) to 32. Each subject gets an Achievement Level from AL1 to AL8, and the four are added up. Secondary school cut-off points vary each year.

When will the PSLE 2027 timetable be out?

SEAB usually publishes the next year's PSLE timetable early in the year — the 2026 one was updated on 13 February 2026. We add it here as soon as it's out.
