How to Collect Video Testimonials from Parents

· 6 min read · By the TuitionCRM team

A 60-second video of a real parent saying "my son went from C6 to A2" is the most convincing thing a tutor can show a new parent. Here's how to collect them without awkwardness.

When to ask

  • After results day — PSLE in late November, O-Level in January, A-Level in February.
  • After a big improvement in a school test.
  • When a parent thanks you on WhatsApp — reply with a thank-you, then ask.

Questions that make a great testimonial

  1. What was your child finding hard before our lessons?
  2. What has changed since — in results, confidence or attitude?
  3. What do you like most about how the lessons are run?
  4. What would you tell another parent who's thinking of signing up?

Before → after → why → recommendation. That's the shape of every testimonial that persuades.

Make recording easy

  • Send a link, not instructions to film and send a file.
  • Show the questions on screen while they record, so they don't freeze.
  • Let them watch it back and re-record before sending.
  • Keep it short — under 2 minutes.

Get consent, every time

Videos often mention children. Ask parents to agree, clearly, that you can share the video on your website or social media — and respect it if they'd rather you didn't. Singapore's personal data rules are explained by the PDPC.

Turn one video into a month of content

  1. Post the full video on Instagram, Facebook and your Google Business Profile.
  2. Pull out the best sentence as a quote image.
  3. Add the quote to your tutor profile on agency sites and Carousell.
  4. Send it to new parents who are deciding.

Common questions

What if a parent doesn't want to be on camera?

Offer a voice-only recording or a written quote instead. Some parents are happier if their child speaks too.

Can I show the child in the video?

Only with the parent's clear consent. Many tutors avoid showing the child's face or naming their school — the parent's words are what matter.

Can the testimonial be in Mandarin or another language?

Yes. A parent speaking naturally in their own language is more convincing. Add English captions when you post it.

Can I edit the video?

Trimming the start and end and adding captions is fine. Don't cut it in a way that changes what the parent meant.

Are video testimonials better than Google reviews?

They do different jobs. Google reviews help parents find you in search; videos help them decide once they've found you. Collect both.
