O-Level 2026: A Paper-by-Paper Plan for Tutors

· 6 min read · By the TuitionCRM team

The 2026 O-Level written papers run from Monday 19 October to Tuesday 10 November. For tutors, these three weeks are less about new content and more about timing: the right short session before the right paper. Here's a plan built around the official timetable.

Before each paper: short, targeted sessions

  • 1–2 days before: a 60–90 minute session on that paper's weakest topics and past-paper timing — not new content.
  • The day before: a light check-in, or nothing. Sleep beats one more hour of practice.
  • Between Maths P1 and P2: review the mistakes from P1 while they're fresh.
  • Paper days: no lessons. Send a short good-luck message instead.

Swap regular lessons for exam clinics

Your usual weekly slot may land on a paper day. Move it to the day before the relevant paper, or offer a few short "exam clinic" sessions instead. Tell parents early so nobody is confused about what's charged — your make-up and cancellation policy should cover exam season.

After 10 November

Results come out in mid-January 2027 (tentatively 13–15 January). In between, parents decide what's next — JC, poly, or a break. Plan your year-end offer now: see how to keep students over the year-end holidays.

Next year is different

From 2027, the O-Level is replaced by the SEC. Your current Sec 3 students will sit it — read what the SEC change means for tutors, and plan your whole year with our exam-year guide.

Common questions

Should I continue tuition during the O-Level exams?

Yes, but change what you do. Swap regular lessons for short sessions before each paper, focused on past-paper practice and weak topics rather than new content.

Do I charge for lessons that are cancelled because of exams?

It depends on your policy. Agree with parents before October which lessons are moved, which are cancelled and what's charged, so there are no surprises.

What should students do the night before a paper?

A light review of formulas and common mistakes, then an early night. Check the paper's time and venue, and pack their calculator, ruler and spare pens.

What happens after the O-Level results?

Students apply for JC, poly or ITE through the Joint Admissions Exercise, which opens after results in January. Many parents look for JC or poly head-start lessons then.

Is 2026 the last O-Level?

Yes, for school candidates. From 2027 the O-Level and N-Level are replaced by the SEC. See what the SEC means for tutors.
